The center seeks to foster a vibrant ecosystem of innovation within the agri-food sector

Under this pillar, the center is facilitating the development and dissemination of research-driven solutions by promoting collaboration and innovation transfer between academic institutions, tech developers, and the agri-food industry to introduce cutting-edge technologies and practices in agriculture.

SAFIC supports the University and Business school in delivering on their core mandate of Research, Teaching, public engagement & outreach, policy influencing by generating new knowledge and excelling in knowledge transfer by participating in the following:

  • Engaging in cutting-edge research on emerging challenges and opportunities for select value chains critical for Government and industry.

  • Leveraging data science for agribusiness decision making, identifying data gaps, and running diagnostics within the sector to ensure an effective design and implementation of a country-led inclusive ag transformation roadmap in Africa.

  • Identifying and addressing capacity-skills and knowledge-gaps in the agricultural and agribusiness sector

  • Offering development programs to students across academic tracks, including doctorates (PhD) and masters (MMA) as well as short executive programs targeting participants who wish to enhance their productivity and market linkages.

  • Promoting public discourse through organizing seminars, conferences, business platforms and other initiatives.

  • Establishing close relationships with local and international universities, research centers, and research networks to serve as a platform for solving the myriad of challenges facing the sector.

  • Advancing efforts to ensure positive policy outcomes that impact all stakeholders in food systems, working in conjunction with relevant university schools, centers and hubs.
